My Resumé
Objective:
To embark in a fulfilling career that makes the best use of my skills and my goals.
Experience
In 1997 I was elected to a 4 year term as a Councillor to the Council
of Communities of Portugal. I advised the government of Portugal and I represented all Portuguese Canadians. I made needs assessments and studies. I did recommendation at the AGM in
Lisbon at the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal and many reports in all areas of Portuguese Canadian social life,
namely: fundamental structural changes of the Portuguese consulate services in Canada to meet the needs of the population,
the elderly and their sub-cultural needs and community demands, emigration policy and the revision of bylaws of the council
itself.
1993 to 1998 Construction Foreman. I worked full time for
Architectural Harwood Flooring. It involved supervising and work scheduling, hardwood installations and finishings, customer
relations, contracts and sales. The firm also did exports and I was involved in the marketing strategies and international
costumer search. Helped fund the hardwood flooring course and curriculum at Algonquin
College. I stopped this wonderful career due to a major motor vehicle
accident that left me with severe physical limitations.
1993 to 1997
I was elected Regional Director for the Portuguese Canadian National
Congress. As a member of the National Board I organised lobby and reports to all different levels of government and institutions to
best protect and promote a healthy social environment to all Portuguese Canadians. I have made important presentations to
the Ontario Ministers and Prime Minister Bob Rae regarding the difficulties and needs of
the elderly in the ethnic communities of Ontario. This was
a result of a major social survey that I designed, conducted and analysed. I also represented the Portuguese Canadian National
Congress at the Ethno-Cultural Council in Ottawa. In this
Council I contributed to the concept and constructions of the Rideau Hall Historical garden. I also presented many reports
and discussions to fight discrimination in Canada. This
was a volunteer part time job.
1987 to 1992 Teacher of the Portuguese language
to pre-adolescents and adolescents for the Ottawa Roman Catholic Separate
School Board. It involved curriculum development and material search
due to the lack of resources. I was also involved as a social and cultural animator for the schools Christmas events and fundraising.
This was a part time job.
